 Disc Brakes Australia has worked for decades with race teams, manufacturers, and users to develop and refine their brake rotor products. All processes, from tooling and vane design to alloys, heat treating and packaging, are controlled by DBA to produce some of the highest quality brake rotors for performance applications.

DBA rotors start with their Kangaroo Paw vane design that features 144 diamond and teardrop patterned pillars (or columns) instead of more typical straight cooling vanes. This design can increase cooling efficiency by up to 20%. These pillars are center split and evenly distributed across the disc face to make the rotor stronger, more stable and more consistent in operation. DBA then uses a specific heat treated XG-150 cast iron alloy in all of its premium performance disc brake rotors. This iron is higher in carbon and specifically alloyed and heat treated to improve thermal characteristics.

The T3 4000 series rotors are slotted as shown. Slotting can reduce pad glazing and allow better pad bite under hard braking conditions. It can also help maintain the pad friction surface by wiping debris generated from hard braking.

The AX6 is specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range of 50 F to 1100 F + (10 C to 593 C+). The advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial bite, high coefficient of friction at lower temperatures along with very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics.
AX6 offers high fade resistance, rotor friendliness at all temperatures and excellent cold stopping power. As a result, AX6 is an excellent choice for Autocross and has gained tremendous popularity with SCCA Prosolo/Solo2 competitors for its outstanding all around performance. Many drivers use the AX6 for street driving as well, even though Carbotech doesn't recommend street driving with AX6 due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.
AX6 is NOT recommended as race compounds in most applications.

The DS2500 compound is primarily designed for high performance road use however its excellent temperature range make DS2500 our most highly recommended street/track 'combo' pad. Particulary effective where a high temperature range is required with low to medium friction requirements such as lower grip tires and/or surfaces.
These pads have long been our favorite pad to recomend to modern high performance car owners where usefulness in a variety of conditions is desired. Aside from moderate dusting and some potential for noise you can run these pads in most street and light track conditions.
DS2500 has a moderate friction level that remains constant throughout the working range. Ferodo DS Performance pads are supplied to you 'ready to perform' which means that they reach maximum efficiency after only one or two brake applications. As braking temperatures rise DS2500 performance continues to deliver consistent and reliable braking. This graph illustrates an impressively stable friction level up to the maximum operating temperature.

Released in a limited number of shapes for 2019, the DS3.12 is the latest evolution in Ferodo's DS line. The Ferodo Racing DS3.12 pad compound works for club racing, HPDE, and time trials. The DS3.12 shows a slightly rising torque curve across a broad temperature range. It has a higher mu than Ferodo's other compounds, so not as much leg pressure is required to initiate the desired response. In dyno testing, the DS3.12 has shown superior wear rates to the other Ferodo compounds, while remaining kind to the discs.

The Girodisc 2 piece rotor system is a direct replacement for the OEM brake disc and unless noted no additional modifications are necessary. The disc will bolt directly to the car and work perfectly with OEM calipers. 
Center hats are made from U.S. sourced 6061-T6 aircraft specification aluminum. The discs are made from Girodisc proprietary cast iron, poured in the USA and machined from start to finish in house at Girodisc. The discs use a curved vane design developed in racing that acts as a centrifugal pump to efficiently move cooling air.
The rotor and hat are a floating mount design which uses high strength alloy steel drive pins secured by grade 12 cap screws and hardened washers. The floating system allows both axial and radial float to keep the rotor self centered under high heat conditions. Spring washers are also used to reduce rattle under cold or light use operation.

The DBA 5000 series is a direct replacement two-piece disc brake rotor, designed for drivers seeking performance braking. The DBA 5000 series disc rotors consists of two main components: the aluminum center hat and the cast iron disc rotor. These two components are bolted together with NAS (National Aerospace Standard) bolts and lock nuts, hence the term 'two-piece' rotor. The main advantage of a two-piece rotor is the ability to allow the cast-iron disc rotor to expand and contract uniformly as the temperature rises and falls during brake application. The benefits of this is minimal distortion and warping of the cast-iron disc rotor. 
The Aluminum mounting center hat is made from super-light 6061-T6 Aluminium material, as used in aircraft structural design. The thermal conductivity and high strength of hat allows it to handle large temperature changes.
 After decades of design and development with race teams around the world, Disc Brakes Australia developed a proprietary cast iron (XG-150) for use in all of its premium performance disc brake rotors. This specially formulated iron is rich in carbon and alloyed to produce excellent thermal characteristics, which is a key factor in the production of the casting, combined with patented 'Kangaroo Paw' ventilation design. With its supersaturated solution of carbon in an iron matrix, the excess carbon precipitates out in the form of graphite flakes. The morphology of these graphite flakes provide excellent thermal properties, increasing the thermal shock resistance and allowing it to survive rapid thermal cycling with core-heat levels of approximately 1290ºF and above.

<h1>Internal Vane Quantity and Quality</h1>
The internal vane design on AP J Hook discs is quite a bit different vs. OEM-style discs and other brands of aftermarket discs. Many OEM discs feature a pillar vane design, which can be thought of as a group of posts or pillars connecting the two disc halves together (see pic below). The pillars are not organized linearly from the outside to the inside of the disc, and turbulence is created as air flows through and among them. Pillar vane discs are therefore not particularly well suited to heat evacuation. The goals of a pillar vane design are disc face stability for low NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), and a low cost of production. Pillar vanes are non-directional, and the same part number is used on both sides of the car (again for cost reduction). Other OEM discs feature a straight, non-directional internal vane. While that type of vane flows more air than a pillar, it does not move nearly as much air as the directional vanes featured in AP Racing's discs. Having directional vanes means that AP Racing discs are handed. There is a unique left disc and a right disc in each pair, and they cannot be swapped from side-to-side on the car. The orientation of the vanes is optimized to spin in a certain direction, pumping the maximum amount of air possible through the disc. The shape of these internal vanes is also optimized to promote smooth airflow.

In addition to having a superior internal vane design, AP Racing discs have far more of them! Most aftermarket discs have 30 to 48 vanes. After extensive CFD and thermal stress analysis, AP designed the J Hook's with a high vane count (typically 60 to 84 depending on application). Having more vanes increases airspeed and heat transfer through the disc, reduces air recirculation between vanes, and reduces deflection at the disc face. Compared to an OEM-style disc or competitor's 48 vane discs, the 60+ vane discs are less prone to coning, distortion, and cracking, while providing less brake fade, reduced judder, more even pad contact, and a longer service life.

<h1>Exclusive AP Racing J Hook Slot Pattern</h1>
When you cut a slot or drill a hole in a disc you impact heat transfer. The area around the slot or hole acts as a cool spot when the disc heats up, which is not ideal. Ideally, heat is distributed uniformly around the disc so it can be hit with the cooling air that is pumping through the disc, radiate outwards away from the disc, etc. Cool spots create stress risers and increase the likelihood of the disc cracking. They also cause the face of the disc to distort unevenly, leading to uneven pad deposits, vibration, and judder.

The OEM discs avoid this problem by simply leaving the face blank. While the risk for NVH goes down, so does the pad bite and feel of the disc through the brake pedal. Competitive aftermarket offerings typically have straight slots, which tend to leave cool spots across the disc face between the slots.

During exhaustive R&D testing, AP's J Hook design was found to create a constant pathway of evenly distorted material on the face of the disc. The hooks are spaced out as evenly as possible both around the circumference of the disc, as well as from the inside edge (where the hat attaches) to outer edge, with a slight overlap to promote even heat distribution/distortion. In addition to reducing cracking, the even heating of the disc also helps provide an even transfer layer of pad material on the disc when you bed them in.

Additionally, the J Hook slot pattern produces a greater number of leading edges for the pads to bite into vs. a traditional curved slot pattern, and particularly a plain-faced disc. While this may lead to slightly more whirring or scraping noises from the discs when applying the brakes, the benefits of more even heat distribution, less propensity to crack, cleaner pad material transfer during bed-in, and more bite far outweigh the slight increase in NVH for the serious enthusiast.

<h1>Disc Burnishing/Bedding Service</h1>
If your brake discs aren’t being properly prepared for abuse prior to flogging them on track, you’re exposing yourself to potential judder, vibration, and cracking issues. We all know that prepping your pads and discs at the track can be difficult. Doing so wastes time during the first session of the day, and it's a hassle and potentially dangerous for other drivers as you go through the procedure. Track time is expensive and tough to come by. The more time you spend behind the wheel performing an elaborate bed-in procedure, the less time you’ll spend doing hot laps. Performing the procedure on-track also limits its repeatability. After countless hours of experimentation, and extensive feedback from the top drivers and teams, we can consistently squeeze the most reliable performance out of AP Racing's discs. The procedure is incredibly repeatable, as it is performed on a computer-controlled machine by experienced technicians. The cost of our burnishing service is $50 per disc ($100 per brake kit).

Please note that the pads you receive will not be pre-burnished. In other words, the pads and discs do not have to be a matched set burnished together to reap the benefits the procedure has on the discs. In other words, we will burnish the discs in the pad compound you choose, they just won't be burnished with the exact set of pads that will arrive with your kit.
